MSFC is proud to present some of our stellar current and former members in this exciting winter mini folk festival! You'll see familiar faces up on stage including Mickey (fiddle) and Michelle (harp), Catie (voice, cello, everything), Jess (fiddle) and Louise (cello), and a bunch of our talented young people performing in a special string ensemble to close the show!

Family Friendly. There will be tea and cake available with room for kids to play. Kids 12 and under free! Doors open at 3.30pm, show starts 4pm.

To celebrate the release of Mickey & Michelle's new album Solace in Wonder, a mini-folk festival will be held in Fitzroy this August with special guests Big Fiddle Little Fiddle, Catie Alison and the Restrung Orchestra, presented by the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club. 

Descending from the mountains are harp and fiddle extravaganza Mickey & Michelle, whose energetic and virtuosic performances have captured hearts throughout Australia and New Zealand. Celebrated for their artistry and virtuosic skill, Mickey & Michelle weave a gorgeous ‘chamber-folk’ tapestry of original Celtic music infused with vocal harmony and fiery improvisations.

The duo are excited to release their sophomore album Solace in Wonder this winter, having spent the last five years developing their compositions and arrangements. The album showcases Michelle's virtuosity in her eight minute epic harp concerto Grove of Giants, while Mickey’s poignant lyricism is on full display as they deftly explore their relation with the natural world, while also celebrating music making and community. 

Joining them are Big Fiddle Little Fiddle whose infectious tunes and driving rhythms, percussive podorythmie, eclectic fiddling styles, singing melodies, vibrant creative collaborations, original tunes are brought together in imaginative arrangements, energised by a sheer joy of playing music. This is euphoric musical discourse.

Blending poetry with ethereal harmonies, Catie Alison's creativity shines through her songwriting and arrangements. With a deep understanding and love of music, she creates with intensity and intention on her new EP Risk of Winter. 

The evening will end with a joint performance from Mickey & Michelle, and the Restrung Orchestra, a luscious 13 piece string section featuring on Solace in Wonder.
