Touring New South Wales - 2010

...this page is under construction - check back soon...

After months of planning and practising, the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club were ready to embark on their third tour - this time travelling up to and around New South Wales. We do get to share ourselves with the rest of the country by playing at folk festivals such as the National in Canberra, the Celtic Festival at Portarlington and Cygnet in Tasmania. This tour, and the previous one to Tasmania, allows us to reach new audiences in more rural areas and for us to explore the country too. We also get to have a great time travelling together on a bus and meeting friendly hospitable people all over the place and the chance to play and perform - sharing the music we love.

So here's a run down of the tour:

Tour Map
Saturday 25 September Melbourne - Holbrook - Tumut
We all assembled Saturday morning in Northcote - the bus was a little late - luckily it meant we didn't have to leave some of us behind...
Waiting for the bus - Northcote   Not so senior!   Holbrook lunch break - inland submarine
We arrived at Tumut to be greeted by the most organised window display advertising our concert and a lovely old theatre now run by the community - the Montreal Theatre. We were reminded it was grand final day too... Go Tumut Blues...

Our Tumut concert was a great start to the tour -lovely curtains - lovely audience - we played them out into the street.

After the concert many of us were taken home by locals who had offerred to billet us for the night.
Sunday 26th September Tumut - Bundanoon
The next morning JT was on the phone to Macca telling Australia all Over about our tour. She never stops!
Then we headed off to Bundanoon for a Sunday afternoon concert, where we had the pleasure of welcoming to the stage Bob McInnes who amazed us with 101 variations of Mason's Apron.
Bundanoon has banned the plastic bottle and offers free filtered water in the main street. This was great for all of us to hear about, especially our travelling cameraman Mike Lutman who is making a documentary about plastic polluting the world.
In the evening we all shared a meal etc and stayed the night at the local motel who managed quite well with about 45 of us.

Monday 27th September Bundanoon - Fitzroy Falls - Kangaroo Valley - Milton
We left the motel after wandering around the town centre and breakfasting at the local cafes. On to the Fitzroy Falls - a taste of the Blue Mountains. Our wildlife experts got close and personal with the wildflowers and we marvelled at the sheer drops of the falls and the spectacular scenery.

Thankfully the bus waited for all of us to get back on board and off we went to have lunch at Kangaroo Valley - another pretty town and here all the blossoms were out. After lunch we travelled on to Milton for our performance at the Milton Theatre - a fully refurbished theatre seating 200. We had a great audience and again we played them out to the street
